Discounts for local residents
Discounts for local residents
Posted on Sunday, 18 April 2010 08:15AM by
Locals in the Peak District are being offered cut price entrance to some of the area’s most popular attractions in a bid to support local businesses and boost the economy.
Historic houses, theme parks and many other tourist attractions are offering discounts for local tourists during the On Your Doorstep campaign which runs from April 20 to 30.
More than 50 attractions, organisations and restaurants – from Buxton in the north to Swadlincote in the south and Creswell Crags in the east to Rudyard in the west – are supporting the recession-busting campaign by Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, the area's official tourist board.
"When you live in such a beautiful area as ours, it's easy to overlook the fantastic variety of fascinating things to see and do right under your nose," said David Thornton, the tourist board's Head of Marketing and Deputy Chief Executive.
"Our On Your Doorstep campaign is a wonderful opportunity for local people to find out – or remind themselves – of the brilliant range of things to see and do here.
"Tourists travel from all over the country and around the world to visit and appreciate our beautiful and unique area – but we're also keen to encourage local residents to enjoy the wide variety of attractions and activities it has to offer at unbeatable prices."
Vouchers are available throughout the 11-day promotion, which is being run in partnership with Derbyshire County Council, at attractions ranging from Conkers to Crich Tramway Village and Treak Cliff Cavern to the Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre. Special Golden Tickets are needed for mega offers on certain days, such as:
Chatsworth £2.10 admission per person on Tuesday April 20 and Friday April 30 – ‘£2.10 for 2010'
Speedwell Cavern and Peak Cavern, Castleton – visit Speedwell Cavern on Wednesday April 21 and get a FREE visit to Peak Cavern on the same day
Strutt's North Mill, Belper – £1 admission per person on Thursday April 22
The Heights of Abraham, Matlock Bath – £1 entry per person on St George's Day, Friday April 23
Peak Rail plc, Matlock – half-price all day rover ticket on Saturday April 24 (not valid for groups)
Bondhay Golf Club, Whitwell Common – experience one of the region's best Par 3 family golf courses and get 25 per cent off the standard green fee on Sunday April 25
Peak Practice Golf Driving Range, Buxton – free year's membership in all categories, starting Monday 26 April
Swadlincote Ski & Snowboard Centre – one-hour Open Practice Ski or Snowboard session for just £2.00, only on Wednesday April 28 (conditions apply).
Rosliston Forestry Centre, National Forest – buy one get one free on the crazy golf, only on Thursday April 29.

.
Vouchers and Golden Tickets can be downloaded from there, and also from Derbyshire County Council's website
www.derbyshire.gov.uk/goldenticket
, or from the four-page supplement in any of the Derbyshire Times Group's weekly newspapers published this week. The supplement is also available in libraries across Derbyshire, and Golden Tickets can be found on the back of the current issue of Derbyshire County Council's newspaper, Derbyshire First.
Offers are targeted at people who live in, or close to, the Peak District & Derbyshire. Applicants may be asked for additional proof of their address when visiting an attraction, so should take a utility bill, driving licence or similar document to avoid disappointment. Each offer has its own terms and conditions.
Some vouchers are only valid on specific days and certain purchasing options may apply.
